The Adventures of the Thundering Whales: The Dreaded Weaved Catcher, a childrens book by Stephen Vadakin, shares the story of three young dolphins and their encounter with a dangerous weaved catcher. When Thunder, Flukie and Sapphire are out playing in the ocean, having fun, they dont hear the dreaded weaved catcher (fishing trawler) coming near. All of a sudden Thunder is caught in a loose piece of fishing net and falls far, far down into the ocean depths, his friends Flukie and Sapphire do not know what to do. Thunder soon falls too deep for his companions to follow, deeper than any dolphin has fallen alive. Suddenly Thunders medallion around his neck illuminates. Hes cant believe it, but now a magic air bubble has formed around him, and now he can breathe. An underwater earthquake occurs and he is drawn into a vast cave system deep into the earth. He meets hundreds of friendly creatures and their leader Big Sid the squid. Meanwhile, Flukie and Sapphire enlist the help of many of their marine life friends. Old blue, the giant blue whale, four sperm whales, Safi, Corfu, Tamri, Juba and the swordfish police patrol. Thunder must survive the deepest depths of the ocean. Can they save him? I hope this book can inspire readers and encourage them to ponder how ocean creatures communicate among one another, Vadakin says. I also wanted to show the young readers different species of marine life creatures, and their characteristics. This is the first in a planned series of childrens books about these three dolphins and their adventures. The book also features full-color illustrations depicting each character and important scenes, intended to educate as well as entertain. Chapter conclusions include a list of word definitions to help young readers understand key terms. About the Author Stephen T. Vadakin is a writer and marine and wildlife artist who creates sculptures utilizing the mediums of wood and bronze. As a young child, Vadakin was diagnosed with dyslexia. His passion for marine life and sailing helped him overcome many of the challenges his dyslexia created and helped him to develop creatively. Vadakin is also the founder of a marine science program for school children in the Midwest called the Great American Dolphin and Whale Tour.
