Feb 24, 2009 - I have seen these brushes before, and i always wanted to see them in action. Thank you so much! I personally think the smaller brushes are easier to handle, though i can not say from experience. And i thought the paperweight was made of stone. I was surprised :) 願 möge 主 der Herr, Meister 祝福 segnen 保守 behalten, (here bewahren) 你 du / dich 五手裏剣

Feb 24, 2009 - Thank you. Glad you like the music. The whole process of this one was about 20 minutes and I had to cut some like grinding the ink and dipping the brush, things like that.
artvirtue Says:
Feb 24, 2009 - Usually, the smallest and largest are more difficult, either the brush or the writing skill. Paperweights can be made of different materials, such as wood, stone, jade, metal, plastic... and etc. Thank you for the German :)

Feb 24, 2009 - My pleasure :) I thought of it that way. A small brush has less size, and therefor your grip is more stable. But the length of the hair is here probably the reason, i suppose.
artvirtue Says:
Feb 24, 2009 - Yes, the length of the hair is a very critical consideration, too. Thanks.

Mar 10, 2009 - Beautiful to see your demonstration. I am a Sumi-e painter myself. Last week I have got two big brushes from China with bear and fox hair. Can you please inform me for what subjects those brushes are mostly used. Thank you.

Mar 11, 2009 - Examples of traditions: Hard brush (eg. Weasel) for cursive calligraphy Soft brush (eg. Goat) for seal and clerical style calligraphy Other combinations: please refer to sf108coms channel. They have many examples of using different brushes for painting.

Mar 11, 2009 - I am not really sure about what specific purposes bear and fox, and even rooster, horse ... hair brushes are for. Since there are so many Chinese painting genres and calligraphy styles, basically Chinese categorize brushes into soft, hard, and combination of soft and hard. Any hair can be used or combined to make those. Depending on the elasticity and size of the hair, I think it's best to try on our own besides following some traditions.

Feb 24, 2009 - It is very interesting to observe of process of a calligraphy. In heart during this moment music sounds, which is similar to silent delight (to not frighten away this feeling) from ancient art. Materials very good.
